重组小鼠干扰素Alpha-2由大肠杆菌表达系统生产，编码Cys24-Glu190的目标基因被表达。目前已知至少有23种不同的干扰素-α变体。各个蛋白质的分子质量在19-26kD之间，由长度为156-166和172个氨基酸的蛋白质组成。所有IFN-α亚型在氨基酸位置115-151之间拥有一个共同的保守序列区，而氨基酸末端是可变的。许多IFN-α亚型只在一个或两个位置上有序列差异。自然发生的变体还包括在羧基末端被截断10个氨基酸的蛋白质。
