重组人IL-3蛋白是一种促进巨核细胞、粒细胞-巨噬细胞、红细胞、嗜酸性粒细胞、嗜碱性细胞和肥大细胞系祖细胞存活、分化和增殖的造血生长因子。IL-3由T细胞、肥大细胞和嗜酸性粒细胞产生，增强血小板生成、吞噬和抗体介导的细胞毒性。其激活单核细胞的能力表明，IL-3可能具有额外的免疫调节作用.许多IL-3的活性依赖于与其他细胞因子的协同刺激.IL-3是一种物种特异性的、可变异的糖基化细胞因子。
重组人IL-3蛋白包含 139 个氨基酸，预测分子量为 15.9kD。
通过刺激人TF-1细胞的细胞增殖试验中测定，活性为 ≥ 1.0×106 U/mg。
