Sonic Hedgehog Homolog (SHH) 属于刺猬三种蛋白质家族。其他两个家族成员是印度刺猬(IHH)和沙漠刺猬(DHH)。刺猬蛋白是胚胎发育的关键信号分子。SHH在多种胚胎组织中表达,在调节肢体和大脑等许多系统的模式方面发挥着关键作用。SHH在成人中也起着重要作用,包括成人干细胞的分裂以及某些癌症和其他疾病的发生。SHH-N具有“全信号”能力。SHH-N与细胞表面的12通跨膜蛋白Patched (Ptc)结合,释放Ptc对g蛋白偶联受体Smoothened (Smo)活性的抑制作用。
