重组大鼠TNF α蛋白是一种由脂肪细胞、活化的单核细胞、巨噬细胞、B细胞、T细胞和成纤维细胞等多种细胞分泌的多效性促炎细胞因子。TNF-α对多种肿瘤细胞具有细胞毒性，是介导细菌感染免疫应答的重要因子。人和鼠TNF-α表现出显著的跨物种反应性。TNF-α以两种形式存在：II型跨膜蛋白和成熟可溶性蛋白。
通过小鼠L929细胞在放线菌素D存在的情况下的裂解能力来确定ED50，其值≤0.05 ng/ml，对应的特异性活性是≥2x107 IU/mg。
