重组大鼠胰岛素样生长因子-1（IGF-1）属于胰岛素基因家族，是促有丝分裂多肽生长因子，可在体外刺激包括肌肉、骨骼和软骨组织在内的各种细胞类型的增殖和存活。IGF 在结构和功能上与胰岛素相似，但具有比胰岛素高得多的促生长活性。IGF-1 主要由肝脏作为内分泌激素以及以旁分泌/自分泌方式在靶组织中产生。IGF-1 的产生受到生长激素 (GH) 的刺激，可因营养不良、生长激素不敏感、缺乏生长激素受体或 GH 受体（包括 SHP2 和 STAT5B）后下游信号通路的故障而受阻。
通过使用 FDCP-1 细胞的细胞增殖试验测定的 ED50小于 10 ng/mL，对应于 > 1×105 units/mg 的比活性。
